18) december - Raceday or rest Day?

Pling!

Let the last preparation Begin!

Weather forecast does not look promising! It doesn't seem like we're going around Cape Point. Rumors are going, I hear more and more.

Last year had been EXTREM. Although the route was redone last year and only went on the Cape Point east coast it had been so the elite had swam several times.

The NSRI security service had requested the route shortened during the race so that one should not go all the way to Cape Point, but turn before. The problem with doing it during a race is that not everyonbe knew they were going to turn before and therefore still paddled out in the violent chaos at Cape Point.

Therefore, NSRI is more vigilant this time around. Rumor has it they won't allow the Cape Point Challenge to go on the west coast this year. The swells are too big and violent. The number of safety boats has already been upgraded since last year.

When Cape Point started in 1980, only lifeguards were included. They rowed in a pair of Speedo and nothing else. Now everyone and everyone wants to paddle, even fools from Denmark. So now they have to make sure everyone can join in, including the fools from Denmark 😉.

I promised myself not to look and prepare myself for the route until it was official. There was no need to learn a route around the Cape when we were supposed to do something else.

I'm not doing much. Four days to race day and it's like nobody's doing anything. Everyone rests fresh. I never think I've had so much training and activity break before a race before! I am restless and my mood will soon be affected by not using my body. My back does are quite bothersome and do not exactly enjoy inactivity.

Pling!

The route has been announced

From Fish Hoek to Cape Point of return. It looks like 52km of strong offshore winds, headwinds and seaweed and large swells at Cape Point - not exactly the dream scenario.
