ENGLISH
Today is Ditlev's Birthday, Hurra, Hurra, Huraaa.
And when he goes home from a specialty, the family waits with a big steak and a ‘skål’
and lovely chocolate and cake!
My boyfriend turns 25 years old today <3 I know that you don't have to count as much for future things, but rather try to do in the present and be happy about what you have, especially in a situation like this. But I've started to count down. Count down until I see my probably rain depressed, pale, long-haired, tired, busy, special writing boyfriend with minimal excess and dirty cups in the room, but I'm looking forward and I'm counting down!
I wrote to Dawid Mocke. David is a so-called Surfski guru. He is a world-class level surfski paddler, as is his wife Nikki, they run Surfski School in Fish hoek and do elearn, school, coaching and many other things. They live in Fish Hoek, where all the surf skiing activity is. I have known Dawid since I was South Africa 2017 and him and Nikki are simply some of the best people you can meet, if you ask me.
As always, my request was well received and I, with Olli, Anders and an Englishman James were invited to dinner.
I had to admit my frustration at the tranquility of the lake and the Cape Point Challenge. Nikki took the time to review the key tips and answer our questions. I knew Nikki was cool, like in really, really cool, but I was still so impressed with how warm she was and impressed with her attitude. She said she sometimes plays a game out there, for the Cape Point Challenge when she's tired, against the waves. If she catches a wave she shouldn't catch, she gets 1 point, and ditto for the waves. It was a way to stay focused. I call people inspirational when they turn on something in me that can make me aspire higher. I can't put Nikki in the 'Inspirational' box, because her approach was just too impressive to achieve. But maybe one day I could be inspired, yet I took the good advice and then I left Nikki's unique personality as 'impressive', at least for now.
The evening went on and when we were going home Olli and Anders went home. My Surfski was tied to David's car, I slept in their son's, Sam's bed. For tomorrow morning I had to go out and paddle at. 05:15 - BUT !! I was going to be at sea this morning!
It turned into 25 km. on the sea that morning, with a bunch of chilled men, a nice attitude and light headwind, side winds and 10 km surf back home.
David was doing 30km. that morning. He came in shortly after me. He had managed to shoot a small movie at the lighthouse and was standing rolling his fishing line as I came down to him on the beach. Yes, of course, he had a fishing line with a 4 cm hook behind him, in case he could just catch a fish on the paddle! 30km, in courage and headwind, a huge fishing line, filming and coming home with extraordinary energy!
